Overview

The Rongai Route is the only official route that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, close to the Kenya–Tanzania border. It is less crowded than the southern routes and offers spectacular wilderness scenery, gradual trails, and excellent views of the Kenyan plains.

The 5-day Rongai Route is a shorter version of the climb and is best suited for physically fit trekkers with previous hiking experience. Due to the faster ascent, there is less time for acclimatization compared with the 6- and 7-day itineraries, making the climb more demanding.

After reaching Uhuru Peak, the descent follows the Marangu Route, allowing climbers to experience two different sides of Mount Kilimanjaro.
