Overview

The Rongai Route is the only official route that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the Kenya–Tanzania border. It is one of the quieter routes on the mountain, making it ideal for trekkers seeking a more peaceful climbing experience.

The route offers beautiful wilderness scenery, gradual elevation gain, and good opportunities to spot wildlife in the lower forests. After summiting via Gilman's Point and Uhuru Peak, the descent follows the Marangu Route, allowing trekkers to experience two different sides of Africa's highest mountain.

The 6-day Rongai Route provides a good balance between acclimatization and trekking duration, making it suitable for both first-time climbers and experienced hikers.
